Our Beliefs
Section One - The Scriptures
We believe in the Holy Scriptures. Accepting fully the writings of the Old and New Testaments as the very Word of God, verbally inspired in all parts and therefore wholly without error in the original manuscripts, altogether sufficient in themselves as our only infallible and authoritative rule of faith and practice. I Cor. 2:13; 10:11; II Tim. 3:16-17; II Peter 1:21
Section Two – God
We believe in the One Triune God, Who is personal, Spirit, and sovereign; perfect, infinite, and eternal in His being, holiness, love, wisdom and power; absolutely separate and above the world as the Upholder of all things; self-existent and self-revealing in three distinct Persons; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, each having a distinct ministry in God’s relation to His creation and people. Gen.1:1; Ex. 20:2-3; I Cor. 8:6; Rev. 4:11; John 10:30
Section Three – Jesus Christ
We believe in the Lord Jesus Christ who is the second person of the Triune God, the eternal Word and only begotten Son; that without any change in His divine Person, He became man by miracle of the virgin birth, thus to continue forever as both God and man, one Person with two natures; that as man, He was tempted in all points as we are, yet without sin; the perfect Lamb of God who gave Himself in death upon the cross, becoming the sin of the world, and suffering its full penalty of divine wrath in our place; that He arose bodily from the grave and was glorified; that as our great High Priest He ascended into Heaven, there to appear before God as our Advocate and Intercessor. Isa. 7:14; 9:6; Matt. 1:18-25; Luke 1:30-35; John 1:1-2,14,18; Phil. 2:5-8; Rom. 3:25-26; II Cor. 5:14; Heb. 10:5-19; I Thess.1:10; 4:13-18; Titus 2:11-14; I John 2:1
Section Four – Holy Spirit
We believe in the Holy Spirit who is the third Person of the Trinity, and the divine Agent in nature, revelation and redemption; that He convicts the world concerning sin, righteousness and judgment; that He regenerates, indwells, baptizes, seals and anoints all who become children of God through Christ; that He further empowers, guides, teaches, sanctifies, and fills each believer who daily surrenders to Him; that He gives at least one or more spiritual gifts to each person upon salvation, and each one is to use these gifts for service in the Body of Christ. Some of these gifts such as ministering, teaching, exhortation and so on are permanent and in operation today. However, there are other gifts such as speaking in tongues, miracles, prophecy and so on that were only operative for a period of time and are no longer in use today. They are designated as sign gifts and were to authenticate the apostles’ message and to inform the church before the completion of the New Testament. John 16:7-11; 14:17; I Cor. 3:16; 6:10; 12-14; Eph. 1:13; 4:7-16; 4:30; I John 2:20-27; I Peter 1:2: 4:10 Romans 12:3-8
Section Five – Satan
We believe in the existence of Satan who originally was created by God as a holy and perfect being, but through pride and wicked ambition rebelled against God, thus becoming utterly depraved in character, the great adversary of God and His people, leader of all other evil angels and spirits, the deceiver and god of this present world, that his powers are vast, but strictly limited by the permissive will of God who overrules all his wicked devices for good; that he was defeated and judged at the cross, and therefore his final doom is certain. He will finally be cast into the lake of fire to be judged for all eternity. We are able to resist and overcome him only with the armor of God, by the blood of the Lamb and the power of the Holy Spirit. Job 1:6-7; Ezekiel 28:11-19; Isa. 14:12-17; Matt. 4:1-11; Eph. 2:2; John 12:31; II Cor. 4:4; Rev. 20:10
Section Six – Demons
We believe in the existence of demons who are spirit beings (angels) created by God as holy yet chose to sin against God thereby rejecting Him and following Satan in his rebellion. Their existence is the subject of much biblical revelation and is without question to those who hold a high view of Scripture. There are many demons in existence, some in confinement while others are actively serving Satan in our world today. Matthew 8:16; 12:22-24; Mark 5:1-20; Jude 6
Section Seven – Angels
We believe in the existence of Angels who are spirit beings created by God as holy. Angels possess intellect, emotion and will. They are of a higher order of creatures than mankind, possess greater knowledge of God and gain knowledge of mankind through the study of human activity. They serve the Lord in a number of ways, as well as ministering to born-again believers. Hebrew 1:14; Job 38:9-10; Mark 8:38; Hebrews 1:6; Luke 16:22 I Peter 1:12; Luke 2:13; Jude 6; Hebrews 2:7
Section Eight – Mankind
We believe all men are by nature and choice sinful and lost. Man was created by God from the dust of the ground. God breathed into man, and man became a living soul. This took place as a direct creative act of God. Therefore, we reject any theory that seeks to provide a different answer for man’s creation, such as evolution and theistic evolution. The first man was named Adam, and the first woman was Eve. Man was made in the image and likeness of God. By personal disobedience to the will of God, man became a sinful creature and the father of a race which is universally sinful in both nature and practice. He was thus alienated from the life and family of God and is under the righteous judgment and wrath of God. Within himself mankind has no possible means of salvation. Genesis 1:26-27; 2:7,17; 2:21-25; 3:1-6; 3:16; Psalm 14:1-2; Jer. 17:9; John 3:6;14:6 Rom.3:10-19; Ephesians 5:22-23; I Timothy 2:14; Romans 5:12-21; I Corinthians 15:22; Ephesians 2:1-3
Section Nine – Salvation
We believe in salvation by grace through faith. Salvation is the free gift of God, neither merited nor secured in part or in whole by any virtue of work of man, but received only by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, in whom all true believers have as a present possession the gift of eternal life, a perfect righteousness, sonship in the family of God, deliverance and security from all condemnation, every spiritual resource needed for life and godliness, and the divine guarantee that he shall never perish; that this salvation affects the whole person; that apart from Christ, there is no salvation. John 1:12-13, 3:3-8; 5:24; Acts 16:31; Rom. 10:9-13; Eph. 2:8-10; Titus 3:7
Section Ten – Priesthood of Believers
We believe in the priesthood of all believers. Jesus Christ is our Great High Priest and through Him every believer has direct access into God’s presence without the need of a human priest. The believer has the right and responsibility to personally study and interpret the Scriptures guided by the Holy Spirit. I Peter 2:5; Rev.1:6, 20:6
Section Eleven – Righteous Living
We believe in righteous living and good works, not as a means of salvation in any sense, but as its proper evidence and fruit. Therefore, as Christians we should obey the Word of God, seek the things that are above, walk as Christ walked, accept as our solemn responsibility the duty and privileges of bearing the gospel to a lost world; remembering that a victorious and fruitful Christian life is possible only for those who in gratitude for the infinite and undeserved mercies of God have presented themselves wholly to Christ. Matt. 5:16; Luke 24:47; Eph. 1:13-14; Titus 2:7-14, 3:5,9
Section Twelve – Lordship of Jesus Christ
We believe in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. He alone is Head of the Body of Christ into which all believers are immediately baptized by the Holy Spirit; that all members of this one spiritual body should assemble and identify themselves in local churches. Acts 2:47; Eph.1::22-23, 2:16, 4:4-5; Heb. 1:3; I Peter 3:22
Section Thirteen – Local Church
We believe in the importance of the local church which is a local assembly of born-again, baptized believers united in organization to practice New Testament ordinances, to meet together for worship, fellowship, teaching and a united testimony while actively engaging in carrying out the Great Commission. Each New Testament church is free to govern itself without ecclesiastical interference, therefore it is autonomous. Although the church is to be independent, it is not to be isolated. Therefore, there is a need for interdependence amongst other churches of like faith and doctrine. Acts. 2:42; Eph. 5:25-27; Heb. 10:25; Acts 13:1-4; Acts 15; Revelation 1-3; Rom. 16:17
Section Fourteen – Ordinances
We believe in two God given ordinances to be followed by the local church. They are baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper. Baptism by immersion portrays the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ and identifies the believer with Christ. This is an act of obedience for the one who has accepted the free gift of salvation. The observance of the Lord’s Supper is the partaking of bread and the cup as a continuing memorial of the broken body and shed blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In no way do either of these ordinances convey grace to those participating in the ordinance. Matt. 28:19-20; Luke 22:19-20; Rom. 6:1-4; I Cor. 11:23-30
Section Fifteen – Rapture
We believe in the Pre-Tribulational Rapture of the church. This is the time when Jesus Christ will return in the clouds to catch up the church, His Bride, and meet them in the air. All who have died in Christ will take part in this event. This will take place before the tribulation and is imminent as the next event in God’s prophetic timeline. John 14:1-3; I Corinthians 15:51-52; Phil.3:20-21; I Thessalonians 4:13-18
Section Sixteen – Tribulation
We believe the tribulation period otherwise known as the 70th week of Daniel will begin sometime after the rapture of the church and will last for a period of seven years. It will begin with the signing of the peace treaty between Israel and the anti-Christ. The temple in Jerusalem will be rebuilt and sacrifice will resume. This time will be marked by unprecedented pain and suffering such as the world has never seen. God will pour out His judgment on the world in the form of the seal, trumpet and bowl judgments. Daniel 9:24-27, 12:1; Revelation 6, 8:7-9, 11:15-19, 16; Mark 13; I Thess. 5; II Thessalonians 2:3-4; Revelation 13:5-8
Section Seventeen – The Second Coming of Christ
We believe in the second coming of Christ. This is the Pre-Millennial return of Jesus Christ when He will literally and physically set His feet on the Mount of Olives. This will take place at the end of the tribulation during the battle of Armageddon. The beast and false prophet and their wicked armies will be defeated by Christ. After this defeat the beast and false prophet are cast into the lake of fire. Satan is then bound for the entire one-thousand year reign of Christ. Acts 1:11-12; Zechariah 14:1-11; Revelation 16:13-16; Revelation 19:11-21; Revelation 20:1-3
Section Eighteen – The Millennium
We believe the millennial kingdom of Christ will be a literal one thousand years when Christ will rule and reign over this earth. This will be a time of peace and prosperity where sin will be greatly limited but not completely eradicated. The church will also reign with Christ during the kingdom age. Revelation 20:1-7; Isaiah 11:3-9; Matthew 19:28; II Timothy 2:12; Revelation 20:7-9
Section Nineteen – The Saved and the Lost
We believe in future life, bodily resurrection and eternal judgment. The spirits of all those who are redeemed upon death go immediately to be with Christ in Heaven. Their works will be judged at the Judgment Seat of Christ and there will be loss and gain of rewards. The spirits of the unsaved (lost) at death descend immediately into Hell where they are kept in punishment until the Great White Throne Judgment, at which time their bodies will be raised from the grave. They shall be judged and cast into the lake of fire, the place of final and everlasting judgment. Luke 16:19-31; Rom.14:11-12; 2 Cor. 5:10; Rev.20:11-15, Rev. 21:8
Section Twenty – The Eternal State
We believe that all the redeemed of all ages will have a bodily resurrection. The Old Testament saints as well as the tribulation saints will be raised at the close of the tribulation and given their glorified bodies. The church age saints will receive their glorified bodies at their resurrection which takes place at the rapture. The old heavens and earth will pass away, and the new heaven and new earth will appear. The New Jerusalem will be here along with the new heavens and new earth. This is the final abode of all the redeemed. It will be a place of utter perfection and eternal bliss. Daniel 12:2; Revelation 20:4-6, 21:4; I Thessalonians 4:13-18; II Peter 3:10; Revelation 21-22
Section Twenty-One – Religious Liberty
God alone is the Lord of the conscience, and He has left it free from the doctrines and commandments of men which are contrary to His Word. Church and state are to be separate. The state owes to the church protection and full freedom in the pursuit of its spiritual ends. In providing for such freedom, no ecclesiastical group or denomination should be favored by the state more than others. Civil government is ordained of God and as faithful Christians we are to render loyal obedience in all things not contrary to the revealed will of God. The church should not resort to the civil power to carry on its service for the Lord. A free church in a free state is the Christian ideal, and this implies the right of free and unhindered access to God on the part of all men, and the right to form and propagate opinions in the sphere of religion without interference by the civil power. Matt. 22:17-21; Rom. 13:1-7; I Peter 2:17
Section Twenty-Two – Social Service
Every Christian is under obligation to seek to make the will of Christ dominant in his own life and in human society; to oppose in the spirit of Christ every form of greed, selfishness and vice; to provide for the orphaned, the aged, the helpless, and the sick; to seek to bring industry, government, and society as a whole under the sway of the principles of righteousness, truth and brotherly love; to promote these ends, Christians should be ready to serve with all men of good will in any good cause, always being ready to act in the spirit of love without compromising their loyalty to Christ and His Truth. Ex. 20:16; Luke 10:25-37; Rom. 12:14-21; Col. 3:12-17; James 2:8
Section Twenty-Three – Evangelism and Missions
It is the duty of every Christian and the duty of every church of Christ to seek to extend the gospel to the ends of the earth. Missionary effort on the part of all rests upon the spiritual necessity of the regenerate life. It is also expressly and repeatedly commanded in the teachings of Christ. The duty and privilege of all born-again believers is to tell others how they can be saved by sharing with them the good news of the gospel. As a church we support missions and missionaries who according to God’s enablement take the gospel into all the world and make disciples according to God’s will. Matt. 28:18-20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:46-47; John 20:21; Acts 1:8, 13:1-3; Rom. 10:13-15; 2 Cor. 5:18-21
Section Twenty-Four – Moral Issues
Human Sexuality: We believe that sexual activity outside of the marital relationship is sin. Any form of homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, bestiality, incest, fornication, adultery, transgenderism, and pornography are sinful perversions of God’s gift of sex. Any employee of this church who becomes pregnant or causes someone to become pregnant as a result of consensual intercourse, outside of the marriage relationship, shall be terminated from employment. Gen. 2:24; Lev. 18:1-30; Rom. 1:24-32; I Cor. 5, 6:9; I Thess. 4:1-8; Heb. 13:4
Marriage: We believe that the only legitimate and Scriptural marriage is the joining of one man and one woman. This church will only perform weddings which are between a man and woman. This includes the use of the church building, fellowship hall and any other facility erected in the future. Gen. 2:24; Matt. 19:3-9; Rom. 7:2; I Cor. 7:10-11; Eph. 5:22-25
Gender Relationships: We believe that men and women are spiritually equal in position before God, but God has ordained distinct and separate functions for men and women in the home and church. The husband is to be the leader of the home. Men are to be leaders in the church (pastors and deacons). Accordingly, only men are eligible for licensure and ordination in the church. Only men are allowed to teach and preach to mixed groups of adults in the church. Gal.3:28; Col. 3:18-19; Eph. 5:22-25; I Tim. 2:8-15, 3
Abortion: We believe that human life begins at conception and the unborn child is a living human being. Abortion constitutes the unjustified, unexcused taking of unborn human life. Abortion is murder. We reject any teaching that abortions due to rape, incest, birth defects, gender selection, birth control, or the mental well-being of the mother are acceptable. Job 3:16; Psalm 51:5, 139:14-16; Isa. 44:24, 49:1,5; Jer. 1:5, 20:15-18; Luke 1:44
Euthanasia: We believe that God is in control of life and death. The taking of life is sin. Life is to be respected and protected from conception till death. Ex. 20:13, 23:7; Matt. 5:21; Acts 17:28
Lawsuits: We believe the Bible to clearly state that Christians should not sue other Christians. As believers we should seek to handle disputes with other believers outside of the secular court system. I Corinthians 6:1-8
Section Twenty-Five – Charismatic Movement
We do not accept or endorse the charismatic movement which among other things, emphasizes speaking and praying in unknown tongues. We believe that certain spiritual gifts ended upon the completion of the New Testament. Some of these gifts include speaking in tongues, miracles and healing. We reject any current movements such as faith healers and any future movements that are unscriptural and take away from our Savior, Jesus Christ. I Cor. 12:7-9, 13:8-10
